I’ve always been a design enthusiast. I love creating a well appointed space, discovering just the right ingredients to make an environment feel thoughtful, curated, and distinct.
When I was in the process of planning my wedding, it was hard to find quality, design-focused rentals at an accessible price point. I wanted the right tools and a clear, easy-to-shop process. Creating a beautiful setting shouldn't be so hard, I reasoned. I launched Mayker in 2014 as a way to bring fresh, inspired design to the temporary events market.
Then and now we strive to marry design and functionality, bringing the best quality products to market with the highest degree of hospitality. Since launching, we've expanded into many areas of design — providing brands and individuals with the tools they need to create beautiful spaces no matter the place or occasion.
Q&A with Megan
Anything black, white, or beige. I keep it simple up top, but love a good pair of Freda Salvadors or some shoe that feels well-made, thoughtful, and just a bit surprising. I never go anywhere without a necklace with my daughter's name on it, made by Consider the Wldflwrs.
Travel. Always travel. Places have design habits that evolve, and I love to keep each of those in my back pocket and reinterpret them in intentional ways that are adapted to their newfound purpose and place.
The European countryside. A place with cobblestone streets and character. Lots of land. Peace, quiet, and plenty of space to think and enjoy.
During the work week, in my home office with a Cortado and a swirl of ideas. On off time, anywhere with my little daughter's hand takes me, reading books and having picnics.
Natural materials. No matter what silhouette or function you give it, nothing ages quite as well as marble, limestone, and travertine.
Material? Color palette? Fragrance? Sound? Meal?
- Material - Any type of natural stone. Currently loving a good leathered quartzite.
- Color Palette - Tone on tone with a sea of beige, ivory, and bone
- Fragrance - A burning wood fire on a crisp fall night
- Sound - My daughter's laughter
- Meal - An authentic, locally cooked Italian meal, served over the course of a few hours and long conversations. Preferably consumed in a cafe by the seaside with the stars twinkling.
Help. I tried to do too much myself (typical). I tend to underestimate the size of the mountain and, on a day like your wedding, you really want to be fully present — not checking off to-do lists.
Know what’s most important to you, and invest in that. Are you a foodie? Great. Worry less about the florals and more about the foie gras. Do you love music? Splurge on that epic band. Do you love it all? Same here. Scale back on your guest list and only invite those truly near and dear to you. Most of the time, this lets you scale the experience without scaling the budget.
“But the Hebrew word, the word timshel—‘Thou mayest’— that gives a choice. It might be the most important word in the world. That says the way is open. That throws it right back on a man. For if ‘Thou mayest’—it is also true that ‘Thou mayest not.”
